Biofiller

Natural volume. Entirely your own.

Performed bySophie Gatward, NP
Woman with healthy-looking skin representing Biofiller treatment at Bloor West Medspa in Toronto

Biofiller is a regenerative injectable made from your own blood. A small blood sample is processed to isolate your plasma, which is then carefully heated and cooled to create a smooth, gel-like consistency that can be injected into areas where subtle volume and rejuvenation are desired.

Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid filler, biofiller uses your own plasma to provide natural-looking support and soft volume. Every plan starts with a facial assessment so treatment is tailored to your features, concerns and goals.

Ideal for

  • Subtle facial volume loss
  • Under-eye hollows
  • Fine lines and crepey skin
  • Improving overall skin quality
  • Clients seeking a regenerative alternative to traditional filler
  • Natural-looking facial rejuvenation

How it works

Biofiller starts with a small blood draw. Your blood is processed to isolate the plasma, which is then carefully heated and cooled to create a smooth, gel-like consistency.

Biofiller starts with a small blood draw. Your blood is processed to isolate the plasma, similar to the preparation used for PRP. The plasma is then carefully heated and cooled to create a smooth, gel-like consistency.

The prepared biofiller is placed with small, precise injections to provide subtle volume and support in areas where rejuvenation is desired. Because it is made from your own plasma rather than traditional hyaluronic acid filler, results are designed to look soft and natural.

What to expect

  1. Consultation & facial assessment: Sophie Gatward, NP, reviews your health history, medications and goals, then assesses your facial structure to determine whether biofiller is appropriate and plan a result that fits your features. She'll also explain the possible risks so you can make an informed choice.
  2. Treatment day: A small amount of blood is drawn and processed to isolate your plasma. The plasma is then prepared into a smooth, gel-like consistency and placed with small, precise injections in the areas being treated.
  3. Right after: You'll usually see some immediate volume along with swelling, redness or tenderness at the injection sites. Mild bruising can also occur, and the treated areas may initially look fuller or feel firmer than the final result.
  4. Following days & weeks: Swelling and tenderness usually improve over the following days as the treated areas settle. Your result may continue to soften and change as the initial swelling resolves.
  5. Follow-up & maintenance: Once everything has settled, Sophie can review your result with you if needed. Biofiller behaves differently from traditional hyaluronic acid filler, so results and longevity vary between individuals. Future treatments can be planned based on your response and goals.

Aftercare tips

  • Follow the personalized instructions you receive at your appointment — they take priority over these general tips.
  • Avoid touching, pressing on or massaging the treated area for the rest of the day, unless you've been told otherwise.
  • A cool compress wrapped in a clean cloth, used gently for short periods, can help ease swelling.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs and alcohol for the first day or two, as they can add to swelling and bruising.
  • Sleeping on your back with your head slightly raised for the first night or two may help reduce swelling.
  • Keep the treated areas clean and avoid unnecessary pressure while they settle.

Possible side effects

  • Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising at the injection sites, which usually settle within a few days.
  • Small bumps, firmness or slight unevenness may occur while the treated areas settle. Contact the clinic if a lump doesn't go away or new swelling appears later.
  • Rare but serious: Vascular occlusion can occur if Biofiller blocks a blood vessel. Warning signs include severe or worsening pain, skin that turns pale, white, grey or dusky, or changes in vision — this needs urgent medical care.
If something doesn’t feel right after your treatment, call the clinic at 416-604-0040. For severe symptoms — such as trouble breathing, vision changes, or skin turning white, grey or dusky — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Frequently asked questions

How natural will Biofiller look?

Biofiller is designed to create soft, subtle volume using a gel made from your own plasma. Treatment is tailored to your facial structure and goals, with the aim of restoring rather than changing your natural features.

How is Biofiller different from dermal filler?

Traditional dermal fillers are typically made from hyaluronic acid and are designed to provide predictable volume and contour. Biofiller is made from your own plasma and provides an initial volumizing effect while also supporting gradual regenerative changes in the treated tissues. The best option depends on the area being treated and your individual goals.

When will I see results from Biofiller?

You'll notice some volume immediately after treatment, although swelling can contribute to the initial fullness. This initial volume gradually changes over time, while collagen stimulation and regenerative changes begin to develop around six weeks, with improvements in skin quality continuing more gradually.

How long do Biofiller results last?

Results vary from person to person. The initial volumizing effect gradually decreases over time, while regenerative changes continue to develop 6 weeks after treatment. Your treatment plan and any future sessions can be tailored based on how you respond and your goals.

When should I book Biofiller before a big event?

It's best not to schedule treatment immediately before an important event. Swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur after treatment, so allowing at least a couple of weeks gives the area time to settle.

Who shouldn't get Biofiller?

Biofiller isn't appropriate for everyone. Certain medical conditions, medications, active infections, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and other individual factors may affect whether treatment is recommended. Sophie will review your health history and treatment goals during your consultation to determine whether Biofiller is appropriate for you.

Individual results vary. All treatments require an in-person consultation and medical assessment to confirm they're right for you. Content on this page is for general information and is not medical advice.
