Skinboost

Hydrated. Smooth. Refreshed.

Performed bySophie Gatward, NP
Woman with hydrated-looking skin representing SkinBoost treatment at Bloor West Medspa in Toronto

SkinBoost is an injectable treatment designed to improve skin hydration, smoothness and overall skin quality without adding the structure or volume associated with traditional dermal filler.

Small amounts of hyaluronic acid are placed superficially throughout the skin using precise microinjections. Hyaluronic acid attracts and retains water, helping the skin look smoother, softer and more hydrated.

Treatment is customized based on your skin, concerns and goals for a subtle, refreshed result that still looks completely like you.

Products we use: Omnilux™ · AlumierMD — about our products

Ideal for

  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Dull or tired-looking skin

  • Improving skin smoothness and softness

  • Clients wanting hydration without added facial volume
  • A subtle, refreshed glow

How it works

SkinBoost uses small amounts of hyaluronic acid placed superficially throughout the skin with precise microinjections.

Unlike traditional dermal filler, which is typically used to restore volume or enhance facial structure, SkinBoost is focused on hydration and skin quality. Hyaluronic acid attracts and retains water within the skin, helping improve hydration, smoothness and overall appearance.

What to expect

  1. Consultation & skin assessment: Sophie Gatward, NP, reviews your health history, medications, skin concerns and goals to determine whether SkinBoost is appropriate for you and customize your treatment.
  2. Treatment day: Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and topical numbing may be applied for comfort. Small amounts of hyaluronic acid are then placed superficially throughout the treatment area using a series of precise microinjections.
  3. Right after: Small raised bumps at the injection sites are common, along with mild redness, swelling or tenderness. Minor bruising can also occur, and these effects typically settle over the following hours to days.
  4. Following days & weeks: As the initial bumps and swelling settle, the skin gradually takes on a smoother, softer and more hydrated appearance. Results vary depending on your skin and individual response.
  5. Series & maintenance: A series of treatments may be recommended initially, followed by maintenance based on your skin, goals and how you respond to treatment.

Aftercare tips

  • Follow the personalized instructions you receive at your appointment — they take priority over these general tips.
  • Avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treated areas for the rest of the day, unless you've been told otherwise.
  • Keep the treated area clean and avoid makeup over the injection sites until the following day, or as directed.
  • A cool compress wrapped in a clean cloth can be used gently for short periods if needed for swelling or discomfort.
  • Skip strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs and excessive heat for the first day or two.
  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids and other potentially irritating skincare products until any sensitivity has settled.
  • Protect your skin from strong sun exposure and wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily.

Possible side effects

  • Small raised bumps, redness, swelling or tenderness at the injection sites are common and typically settle over the following hours to days.
  • Bruising can occur and may take several days to fade.
  • Temporary firmness, unevenness or sensitivity may occur while the treated areas settle.
  • Less commonly, prolonged swelling, infection or other injection-related complications can occur.
  • Rare but serious: As with other injectable hyaluronic acid treatments, vascular complications can occur. Severe or worsening pain, unusual skin colour changes or changes in vision require urgent medical assessment.
If something doesn’t feel right after your treatment, call the clinic at 416-604-0040. For severe symptoms — such as trouble breathing, vision changes, or skin turning white, grey or dusky — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Frequently asked questions

How is Skinboost different from dermal filler?

Both treatments use hyaluronic acid, but they have different goals. Traditional dermal filler is generally used to restore volume or enhance facial structure, while SkinBoost uses superficial microinjections focused on hydration, smoothness and overall skin quality rather than adding noticeable volume.

When will I see results from Skinboost?

You may begin to notice smoother, more hydrated-looking skin as the initial injection-site swelling settles. Results develop gradually and vary depending on your skin, treatment plan and individual response.

How many Skinboost treatments will I need?

This depends on your skin and goals. A series of treatments may be recommended initially, followed by maintenance treatments as needed. Sophie will recommend a treatment plan based on your assessment and response.

Does Skinboost hurt?

Skinboost involves a series of small, superficial injections. Topical numbing may be applied beforehand to improve comfort, and most clients tolerate treatment well.

When should I book Skinboost before an event?

Allow at least one to two weeks before an important event so small injection-site bumps, redness, swelling or bruising have time to fully settle.

Who shouldn't get Skinboost?

Skinboost isn't appropriate for everyone. Active infection or inflammation in the treatment area, certain medical conditions, medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and other individual factors may affect whether treatment is recommended. Sophie will review your health history and medications before treatment to determine whether SkinBoost is appropriate for you.

Individual results vary. All treatments require an in-person consultation and medical assessment to confirm they're right for you. Content on this page is for general information and is not medical advice.
